Presenter guide

Oral presentations

For oral presentations a computer projection system will be provided in the lecture hall. To ensure smooth and timely progression of the sessions, presentations should be submitted in advance of the relevant symposium. Presenters can either send the presentation by e-mail ([email protected]), or submit it on a suitable electronic medium (USB drive) on the day of the symposium, no later than 15 min before the start of the session. Presenters should name the presentation file by their last name. Using the computer available in the lecture hall is a preferred method of presentation, but presenters can use his/her own laptop. They are advised to make sure they have the appropriate connectors and to test the compatibility of the equipment ahead of the session. Advance requests are required also for slide or video projection.

To ensure timely and successful sessions, presenters are requested to consult the symposium Chairpersons for details about their presentation limits, to be on time and to adhere to provided time limits.

Poster presentations

1/ Poster presentation schedule
All SNC'17 participants with accepted abstracts will present their work in the poster form. Presenters are advised to mount their posters on Friday morning and leave them up until the closing of the SNC'17 around 17:00 on Saturday afternoon. Posters with odd ID numbers shall be presented on Friday, those with even numbered ID codes on Saturday. The presenters are requested to be by their posters, available for questions and discussion at the specified time-slot and during coffee breaks.

2/ Instructions for preparing effective posters
SiNAPSA Conference is a multidisciplinary event. Remember that people of varying degrees of professional experience and diverse research interests may be viewing your poster. Therefore, you will want to make your points as clear and succinct as possible.

There are no strict requirements regarding poster size. The poster boards allow posters up to 120 cm tall and 90 cm wide. The standard elements of a SNC poster are: Introduction, Methods, Results (with supporting figures), and a Conclusion or Summary. List of references should be added if published work is cited. Text and figures should be easily read and appreciated from a distance of 1 meter. Use clear graphics and adequate size font to accomplish this.

Poster title, author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s) should be given at the top. Lettering should be about 3 cm high for the title, 2 cm high for the author's names and 1.3 cm high for affiliations.

Note of advice for junior poster presenters: succinct display of main elements of the work is key to successful presentation. When writing the text of the poster, minimize narrative and break text into brief paragraphs. Numbered or bulleted lists are a concise, effective way to convey a series of points. Because the amount of body text is restricted, do not go into details. Also, instead of repeating statements from the main text, use figure legends to complement the main text and provide additional valuable information on Methods and Results to the viewers.
